Aviva and ONYX Insight launch pilot for wind turbine risk analytics
The pilot uses engineering-grade AI to flag potential loss events up to two years ahead, aiming to cut downtime and O and M risks.
Aviva’s Global Risk Management Solutions has partnered with ONYX Insight, a provider of predictive analytics for the wind industry, to help wind asset owners and operators manage operational and insurance-related risks. The collaboration is designed to support better whole-turbine condition monitoring and more proactive maintenance decisions across an asset’s lifecycle.
The companies said turbine performance monitoring is a major cost driver for owners and operators, especially for those relying on reactive maintenance, which can increase exposure to unplanned repairs. Aviva and ONYX Insight launched a pilot partnership intended to incentivize adoption of ONYX’s engineering-grade, AI-driven predictive analytics.
According to ONYX Insight’s CEO, the approach can identify issues up to two years in advance of a potential loss event, giving operators a way to manage risk earlier and optimize maintenance plans. Aviva’s Global Risk Management Solutions also said the effort aligns operational performance with insurance requirements.
Aviva noted that insurers and wind asset owners face growing pressure as fleets age and serial defects become more prevalent. The partnership aims to reduce downtime, manage operations and maintenance risks, and protect long-term asset value, as the energy transition increases the importance of managing turbine life extension and new-model maturity.
