Senate passes nonbinding resolution opposing SBF pardon

The measure cleared by unanimous consent on Wednesday, a rebuke of Sam Bankman-Fried’s request that President Donald Trump commute or pardon his sentence.

The U.S. Senate unanimously approved a nonbinding resolution stating that former FTX CEO Sam Bankman-Fried should receive no presidential pardon or commutation, in response to his clemency bid, according to Bitcoin Magazine.

The resolution, S. Res. 772, passed by unanimous consent on Wednesday, and it signals the chamber’s view that Bankman-Fried should not be granted executive clemency, while also noting the measure is nonbinding and does not limit the president’s constitutional power.

Senators Cynthia Lummis and Ruben Gallego sponsored the legislation, with Lummis saying Bankman-Fried had his day in court, and Gallego urging that he remain incarcerated.

Bankman-Fried, 34, filed his formal pardon application with the Justice Department on June 8, seeking a pardon after completion of sentence that would not erase his conviction but would restore certain civil rights and lift some post-prison barriers, Bitcoin Magazine said.
