Bitcoin Red Team reports 85 critical issues across 390 open source repos

The team says it has filed 4,962 findings so far, including 635 high severity issues, after the Coldcard RNG vulnerability that has been linked to more than $100 million in thefts.

Bitcoin Magazine says a security effort dubbed the “Bitcoin Red Team” has audited 390 open source repositories and identified 85 critical issues and 635 high severity problems following the Coldcard hardware wallet RNG vulnerability.

The outlet reports the Coldcard exploit has been associated with thefts totaling over $100 million, and it warned Coldcard users who have not migrated their bitcoin to new seeds generated in secure firmware are still at risk.

Bitcoin Magazine adds that the Red Team, led by Calle and Rob Hamilton, says it has secured funding and spent more than $40,000 in AI tokens to drive the audit using frontier models, including Kimi K3, GPT Sol, Fable, Opus, and GLM5.2.

The outlet also cites Boltz exchange as having paused operations after losses tied to MK3+ Coldcards and an RNG bug, as the Red Team activity ramps up and files findings at its reported pace.
