US Senate adopts resolution opposing clemency for Sam Bankman-Fried
Prediction markets put the odds of a Trump pardon for Bankman-Fried by July 31 below 1%.
The US Senate approved a simple, nonbinding resolution opposing executive clemency for former FTX CEO Sam Bankman-Fried, Cointelegraph reports.
By unanimous consent, senators backed S. Res. 772, which calls for Bankman-Fried to not receive executive clemency and points to the rule of law and the integrity of the US financial system after his conviction on fraud and conspiracy charges tied to FTX’s collapse.
The resolution cannot block a presidential pardon, but it reflects bipartisan opposition following Bankman-Fried’s request for clemency from President Donald Trump.
Bankman-Fried, who was sentenced to 25 years in federal prison in March 2024, had his clemency request listed as pending with the Department of Justice, and Polymarket traders assign less than a 1% chance of a Trump pardon by July 31.
