Moonrock Insurance creates Chief Data and Actuarial Officer role
The specialist insurer hired Rory Galloway from Markel International to lead actuarial, pricing, portfolio analytics and data strategy for emerging aviation risks.
Moonrock Insurance, a specialist provider of cover for emerging aviation risks including unmanned aviation, appointed Rory Galloway as its first Chief Data and Actuarial Officer. The carrier created the role as part of a strategy to expand its data and analytics capabilities alongside actuarial expertise, as it develops its underwriting operations.
Galloway joins Moonrock from Markel International, where he served as Head of Reserving and Signing Actuary. He is a Fellow of the Institute and Faculty of Actuaries, with more than two decades of experience across insurance and reinsurance, including actuarial functions, risk analysis, and portfolio management.
In his new position, Galloway will oversee Moonrock’s actuarial work, pricing, portfolio analytics, and data strategy. The company said connecting underwriting, pricing, claims, and portfolio performance through data-driven insights is becoming more important as the insurance market continues to evolve, including in unmanned aviation and advanced air mobility markets.
Moonrock Managing Director Simon Ritterband said the appointment reflects a broader view of where insurance is heading, beyond simply adding another senior leader. Moonrock added that improving risk assessment and decision-making, using Galloway’s expertise, will help it build a more modern approach to specialist insurance for the evolving aviation sector.
