SiriusPoint names Emily Yoo as newly created COO role

The Bermuda specialty underwriter said Yoo will oversee technology and claims starting Aug. 10, 2026, as SiriusPoint targets continued performance gains alongside operational upgrades.

SiriusPoint Ltd. has appointed Emily Yoo as chief operating officer in a newly created role, effective August 10, 2026. Yoo will be based in New York and will join the executive leadership team with responsibility for technology, claims, transformation and operational excellence, following leadership of global operations, technology and transformation at Zurich’s travel insurance business.

SiriusPoint said the role reflects its focus on strengthening performance across the business after a first quarter that it characterized as improving. The company reported first-quarter 2026 net income of $100 million, a core combined ratio of 88.9% and an operating return on equity of 15.3%, which it said is at the top end of its 12% to 15% across-the-cycle target range.

The insurer also reported that Insurance and Services gross written premiums rose 8% in the quarter, supported by accident and health, general liability and surety, while it pulled back 10% in reinsurance as conditions softened in areas including property catastrophe and London specialty. SiriusPoint added that its financial strength ratings were upgraded to an A by S&P, AM Best and Fitch within the prior three months.

SiriusPoint CEO Scott Egan said the strategy and nimbleness positions it to grow where it sees attractive returns despite softer market conditions, pointing to progress in its London Market specialty business moving from fourth to second quartile in Lloyd’s syndicate performance rankings under a multi-year improvement effort. The company said the new technology and transformation-focused COO remit is designed to extend into claims and technology, at a time when US consumer sentiment toward insurer use of AI in claims support is shifting.
