Taylor Farms recalls shredded iceberg lettuce in 27 states for Cyclospora
The recall covers lettuce distributed as recently as Thursday and could expand to other products as the FDA investigation continues.
Taylor Farms is recalling potentially contaminated shredded iceberg lettuce distributed in 27 US states due to concerns about Cyclospora, as cyclosporiasis cases continue to rise, according to the Guardian Business.
The recall targets product from the company’s Guanajuato facility in central Mexico, and Taylor Farms said it removed the lettuce because it has the potential to be contaminated with Cyclospora. The producer provided lot codes and named the states affected, but it did not specify brand names or where the produce was served or sold, which could complicate how retailers and consumers identify impacted items.
The US could see at least another two weeks of possible cases because infections may have occurred in recent days. The outlet also reported that the expanding outbreak investigation could point to other products in coming days, and that other producers in the same area could face risks if they shared contaminated water.
Retailers including Costco, Target and Walmart carry Taylor Farms products, and the company also owns organic farm brands such as Earthbound Farm. Taco Bell was the first restaurant to announce it would stop serving produce in several states, and the FDA warned consumers not to eat specific Taylor Farms de Mexico shredded iceberg lettuce served at Taco Bell locations in Indiana, Kentucky, Michigan, Ohio and West Virginia, noting the investigation is ongoing.
