Meta and Anthropic discuss up to $10B AI infrastructure leasing deal

The proposed two-year arrangement would be paid through monthly payments, with both sides able to exit early while final terms are still subject to change.

Meta Platforms is in talks with Anthropic about leasing up to $10 billion of computing capacity, potentially creating a new AI cloud line of business for Meta as demand for chips and data center access remains tight, according to Yahoo Finance.

Anthropic proposed a two-year arrangement in June, with monthly payments for access to Meta's infrastructure. Both companies could walk away early, and the final value and terms are still subject to change, the outlet reported.

Meta has built large computing capacity to support its own AI models but has not yet turned that infrastructure into a service for outside customers. CEO Mark Zuckerberg told shareholders in May that entering cloud computing was definitely on the table, adding that companies approach Meta regularly about accessing its models or spare computing power.

Anthropic has been expanding infrastructure to support Claude adoption and developer demand, including an agreement announced in May to use SpaceX's Colossus 1 facility in Memphis and a separate 20-year data center lease with TeraWulf. Yahoo Finance also noted Anthropic is preparing for a possible public listing as early as October, and additional capacity could give the company more room to train models, run inference, and support new products ahead of any market debut.
