Meta explores AI compute lease talks with Anthropic worth up to $10B

Meta Platforms is in early-stage discussions with Anthropic about leasing computing power from Meta's AI data centers, a deal that could be worth up to $10 billion over two years, according to a report cited by Yahoo Finance.
Yahoo Finance reports that Anthropic proposed the arrangement in June, with payments structured as monthly installments and both parties retaining the option to exit early, while negotiations are described as fluid and not guaranteed to produce a finalized agreement.
The potential deal is framed as part of Anthropic's efforts to secure more capacity amid surging demand after the release of its enterprise product Claude Code, with Nvidia chips still acting as a bottleneck for AI developers, the outlet said.
For Meta, the reporting highlights that the talks could open a new line of business in cloud computing, at a time when the company plans to spend between $125 billion and $145 billion on capital expenditures in 2026, more than double last year's $72 billion, with most of the investment directed toward AI. Yahoo Finance adds that Meta shares initially dropped as much as 6% during a broader tech selloff on Friday, before paring losses to roughly 3% lower by midday.
