China’s Premier Li congratulates UK PM Andy Burnham

Chinese Premier Li Qiang sent congratulations to Andy Burnham after he became Britain’s prime minister, Reuters reported, saying closer dialogue and cooperation between China and Britain would benefit both countries and help stabilize global peace.

Li said he was willing to work with Burnham to strengthen exchanges, enhance mutual trust, promote communication and cooperation, and advance the long-term stable comprehensive strategic partnership between the two sides.

Burnham’s office said that in his first call with the US president, Burnham assured Donald Trump that London would remain committed to defense and security and would help support the safe reopening of the Strait of Hormuz.

A Downing Street spokesperson said the call readout indicated Burnham placed ensuring the security of the UK and its allies at the top of his agenda.
