JLL helps expand National Geographic Museum of Exploration to 100,000 SF

The $300 million redevelopment included ground-up construction plus upgrades such as a nighttime courtyard, education center, retail space, and a converted auditorium theater.

JLL’s Project and Development Services team said it is involved in the expansion and redevelopment of the National Geographic Society’s Museum of Exploration, which reopened at 17th Street NW in Washington, D.C.

The project features a $300 million expansion covering more than 100,000 square feet, including ground-up construction of an expanded museum and a nighttime courtyard experience.

According to ConnectCRE, the redevelopment also added an education center and retail space, and it transformed an existing auditorium into a state-of-the-art theater.

JLL said the work required managing a multi-disciplinary team and coordinating oversight of contractor performance, regulatory compliance, risk management, and construction activities while maintaining daily operations at the occupied headquarters.
