Crypto Week Ahead spotlights US hearings, GENIUS stablecoin rules
The OCC comment period on proposed GENIUS Act rules for stablecoin issuers ends July 24, while the CFTC window for perpetual-style bitcoin futures closes July 27.
CoinDesk previews the week starting July 20, highlighting several U.S. regulatory events and a major macro catalyst tied to European rates that could influence digital asset markets.
In Washington, D.C., a House Financial Services subcommittee hearing opens with a focus on oversight of the Financial Crimes Enforcement Network. The OCC comment period on proposed GENIUS Act rules, which would extend anti-money laundering and sanctions standards to stablecoin issuers, closes July 24, and the CFTC’s window on 24/7 trading and perpetual-style bitcoin futures closes July 27.
The GENIUS Act turned one this month, but the underlying rules are still being written. On the macro front, markets are pricing a hold for the European Central Bank decision on Thursday, with traders also watching geopolitical developments and oil prices.
The brief also lists scheduled token unlocks and events, including Avalanche (AVAX) unlocking 0.7% of circulating supply on July 21, Arbitrum (ARB) unlocking 1.4% on July 23, and a planned ETHGlobal Lisbon 2026 conference running July 24 to July 26.
