Czech lawmakers travel to China in first high-level exchange since 2019
The delegation includes representatives from 40 Czech firms and seeks deals on direct flights and expanded tourist and visa access.
A group of Czech lawmakers has begun a five-day visit to China, marking the first high-level engagement between the two countries since 2019, according to SCMP Economy.
Chamber of Deputies speaker Tomio Okamura, who leads the delegation, said the trip is aimed at securing agreements that could include more direct flights, higher numbers of Chinese tourists, and visa-free travel for Czech citizens.
SCMP Economy reports that representatives from 40 Czech firms, spanning sectors such as energy, mechanical engineering, and industrial technology, are also participating to explore new business opportunities.
A Tsinghua University professor cited by SCMP Economy cautioned that the visit should not be seen as a major thaw, pointing to deep divisions over China among Czech politicians.
