Trump pre authorizes retaliation as dollar firms above 101

The post comes as Iran suspends commitments under the interim deal, with the US Dollar Index around 101.0 and up about 0.4% from the overnight low.

FXStreet reports that Donald Trump, in a Truth Social post, said retaliation for Iranian attacks would be carried out in a “many times over” manner for every American soldier killed by Iran, and that the directive has been passed down to top defense and military leaders.

The outlet links the shift to a weekend in which three US service members were killed in Iranian attacks on bases in Jordan and Iraq, along with a ninth straight night of US strikes, and to Tehran suspending its commitments to last month’s interim deal.

FXStreet says markets entering the weekend had been leaning on pattern recognition for a fourth de-escalation outcome, but that the pre authorized stance reduces the deliberation window. It adds that the US Dollar Index is trading near 101.00, about 0.4% off the overnight floor, as risk pricing shifts around the latest developments.

The story also notes that a reclosed Strait of Hormuz kept crude oil and rate pricing pointed “the wrong way for risk,” supporting the US dollar bid.
