China ramps semiconductor exports as Nvidia H200 imports resume

SCMP Economy reports that imports of Nvidia’s H200 chips, which are positioned below the company’s most advanced Blackwell line, have resumed into China, though only in small quantities.

At the same time, the outlet says China’s chip exports nearly doubled in the first half of 2026, with much of the shipments focused on mature logic integrated circuits used in consumer electronics and automotive applications.

SCMP Economy frames the shift as part of a broader competition across chip layers, arguing that as AI moves from model training toward applications, central processing units could regain importance over the next five years.

The piece also highlights memory as a key battleground, noting that US dominance has been ceded over decades and pointing to Samsung Electronics and SK Hynix as together accounting for two-thirds of the global DRAM market.
