China urged to coordinate maritime agencies to counter US “three seas”
A Beijing Foreign Studies University associate professor said China should set up cross-department mechanisms to deliver unified diplomatic, military, law enforcement, legal, and communications responses.
Chinese researchers are calling for tighter coordination among China’s maritime authorities to respond to a US strategy that places pressure across multiple waterways in the first island chain, according to a Monday article by an associate professor at Beijing Foreign Studies University.
The strategy described as “three seas linkage” focuses on synchronizing operations across flashpoints in the East China Sea, the Taiwan Strait, and the South China Sea, a setup Washington uses to push Beijing into multi-front operations and potential strategic overextension, the SCMP Economy reported.
Yue Shengsong said the first island chain, spanning from the Kuril Islands to Borneo and encompassing Japan, Taiwan, and the Philippines, is viewed by Washington as a barrier to contain Chinese naval expansion.
To counter that pressure, Yue recommended that Beijing strengthen coordination across agencies, build credible deterrence, and create a resilient system for protecting its maritime rights, including establishing cross-departmental mechanisms for unified responses across multiple domains, SCMP Economy reported.
