Coinbase targets Canada with crypto, tokenized stocks, prediction markets
Coinbase Canada CEO Eric Richmond said the company is working with Canadian regulators to launch the expanded exchange offering.
Coinbase is working to expand in Canada into what it calls an “everything exchange,” aiming to let customers trade not only crypto but also tokenized stocks and prediction markets, Bitcoin Magazine reports.
In an interview with BNN Bloomberg, Coinbase Canada CEO and country director Eric Richmond said the effort would give Canadians access to their broader financial activities in one app, supported by blockchain technology, and designed to operate around the clock.
The article describes tokenized stocks as versions of equities that trade on blockchain, and it notes that Coinbase is coordinating with Canadian regulators for the launch.
It also points to related industry moves, including Kraken’s push to offer stock trading and plans for a prediction market platform, and highlights Coinbase’s other developments such as a JPMorgan Chase deal to link bank accounts to its platform and its U.S. steps toward a national trust banking charter.
