Iran warns of further attacks as Gulf shipping risk rises
Iran’s Revolutionary Guards said they stopped two tankers in the Strait of Hormuz, as the US launched its 10th consecutive night of strikes against Iran on 21 July.
Iran targeted US radar and air defense installations in the Gulf on Tuesday, warning Washington that further drone and missile attacks would follow as fighting threatened to widen beyond the Strait of Hormuz, according to Agence France-Presse via SCMP Economy.
Iran’s Revolutionary Guards said it attacked and stopped two “non-compliant oil tankers” attempting to transit the strait, framing the action as part of efforts to tighten its grip on the vital waterway.
The US launched a new round of attacks late Monday, the US military said, designed to further degrade Iranian military capabilities used to attack commercial shipping in the strait. The latest strikes lasted about five hours and marked 10 consecutive nights of US strikes on Iran, the report said.
Hours later, Iran’s army said it targeted US assets in Kuwait and Bahrain, including air defense systems, radar installations and administrative buildings. SCMP Economy also reported that US President Donald Trump warned Iran would pay “many times over” for every American soldier killed, while Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian said the conflict had become “a full-scale war.”
