US-Iran tensions keep oil above $80 and lift Treasury yields
WTI crude hovered around $82.30 and the 10-year Treasury yield was near 4.59%, pressuring equities while supporting the US dollar, according to Forexlive.
Forexlive said markets remain tense going into the week as renewed US-Iran developments continue to feed into expectations for oil prices and interest rates.
The outlet pointed to US president Trump’s comments that Iran would “pay many times over” for the killing of American soldiers, alongside ongoing exchanges of military strikes, as drivers of risk sentiment.
It also cited a late report from Axios that Trump is considering either a renewed ceasefire deal or engaging in a full-scale war, saying headline risk is likely to stay elevated.
Forexlive added that after the overnight moves, oil was settling well above $80 with WTI around $82.30, while 10-year Treasury yields were near 4.59%, with the rise in oil and yields supporting the dollar and weighing on equities.
