Apollo Micro Systems wins Indian Navy Make-II Prototype order
The award moves the SAVIOR-ASW semi-submersible autonomous vessel project to a formal development phase, focused on anti-submarine warfare surveillance in the Indian Ocean Region.
Apollo Micro Systems said it has received a Make-II Prototype Sanction Order from the Indian Navy for development of the SAVIOR-ASW project, drawing attention to the defense company ahead of Thursday trading on July 23, according to LiveMint Markets.
The company described SAVIOR-ASW as India’s first indigenously developed semi-submersible autonomous vessel built for anti-submarine warfare surveillance, with an unmanned, self-powered platform designed to patrol for extended periods.
Apollo Micro Systems said the vessel operates silently beneath the sea surface using a hydrophone array to detect submarines and other underwater threats, while continuously transmitting intelligence to naval command centers onshore and aboard ships.
The company tied the program to the strategic importance of the Indian Ocean Region, saying nearly 100,000 merchant vessels transit its waters annually, carrying about 30% of global containerized cargo and 42% of the world’s crude oil traded from and within the region, and noted India relies on sea transport for about 95% of trade by volume and nearly 68% by value.
