CENTCOM says it completed an 11th night of Iran strikes

CENTCOM said the Strait of Hormuz remains open, even as Iran has attacked more than 30 commercial vessels in three months.

The United States Central Command (CENTCOM) said it completed another night of strikes targeting what it described as Iran’s military and support capabilities, including military operations centers, maritime capabilities, aircraft hangars, drone storage facilities, and logistics infrastructure, Reuters reported Wednesday.

CENTCOM added that it expects the action to further reduce Iran’s ability to threaten commercial shipping in the Strait of Hormuz, a waterway it described as vital for regional and global trade. The military also said Iran has attacked more than 30 commercial vessels transiting the international waterway over the past three months.

CENTCOM said the attacks have endangered mariners and undermined freedom of navigation, while asserting the Strait of Hormuz remains open to commercial shipping. It pointed to the number of vessels and barrels of oil that have transited the strait since early May.

The report also noted crude oil market sensitivity to these developments, with West Texas Intermediate crude up 1.1% on the day to $85.13 at the time of writing, according to the outlet’s update.
