Crypto industry supports 232,000 jobs in US, report says
The National Cryptocurrency Association and Pragmatic Policy Group estimate crypto employs 34,000 people directly and generates $55 billion in economic output in 2026.
Bitcoin Magazine says a new US report finds the crypto sector is a small employer but a large contributor to the broader economy. The analysis, titled “Crypto at Work,” concludes that only 34,000 people are employed by crypto companies in the United States, but the industry is expected to contribute $55 billion to the US economy in 2026.
According to the report, crypto jobs average $133,000 a year, more than double the $64,000 national median wage. It also estimates job spillovers, using an input-output model, finding that each direct crypto role supports roughly six additional jobs elsewhere.
The report estimates the industry supports 232,000 jobs in total when indirect and induced effects are included. By headcount, crypto’s employer footprint is benchmarked against coffee and tea manufacturing at 28,400 jobs and tobacco manufacturing at 10,600 jobs.
Geographically, crypto employment is described as concentrated, with California, New York, and Texas accounting for 60% of jobs. The report also highlights rising hubs such as Colorado and North Dakota, citing factors like Colorado’s crypto friendly tax policy and North Dakota’s flare gas mining operations, along with a stablecoin pilot from the state owned Bank of North Dakota.
