Insurers boost filings for AI-related exclusions in commercial liability
ISO endorsements are prompting more state regulator filings, and adoption could accelerate as renewals roll in.
Insurance Journal reports that insurers are moving quickly to limit exposure to AI-related risks in some commercial liability policies, with increased interest in three ISO exclusions.
According to attorney Alana McMullin of Lathrop GPM, carriers are submitting filings with state insurance regulators to use three ISO endorsements tied to AI exclusions, which she described as part of a broader industry reaction to the rapid expansion of AI risk.
Verisk, the ISO parent, provided a paraphrased description of the endorsements, and McMullin said the uptick in filings may be a step toward adopting the exclusions soon, though how broadly they will be used may not be clear until renewals begin.
Joe Lam, vice president of liability at Verisk, said he has had more conversations with carrier clients about the endorsements, adding that when insurers introduce new endorsements, they typically draw high interest because the exclusions provide underwriting flexibility for emerging exposures.
