Jeff Bezos discusses bid to join consortium seeking stake in Liverpool
The consortium is understood to value Liverpool at around £4.5bn and made a provisional £1.35bn offer for about 30% of the club, with funding talks ongoing.
Jeff Bezos has held talks about joining an investment consortium led by Amit Bhatia that is seeking to buy roughly a 30% stake in English football club Liverpool, Guardian Business reported.
The group has made a provisional offer of £1.35bn to purchase the stake from Fenway Sports Group, and is also seeking other backers to supply funding. Sources cited by the outlet said a deal would involve Bezos receiving equity in Liverpool.
Bezos, whose fortune is described as about $257bn by Forbes, has previously explored bids for NFL franchises including the Seattle Seahawks and Washington Commanders, but has not completed a deal. He is currently executive chairman of Amazon after stepping down as chief executive five years ago.
The Bhatia bid is understood to value Liverpool at around £4.5bn, higher than Manchester United’s valuation when Sir Jim Ratcliffe bought 25% two years ago. While investor searches continue, the report says Bhatia has backing from his father-in-law, Indian steel magnate Lakshmi Mittal, and that Bhatia transferred his QPR shares to another owner to pave the way for the prospective Liverpool investment.
