Manulife renews and expands deal with Microsoft on AI platform

Manulife plans to deploy Microsoft 365 Copilot to more than 30,000 employees and expects over $1 billion in enterprise value by 2027, including $300 million by year-end 2025.

Manulife and Microsoft have renewed and expanded their longstanding relationship under a five-year agreement aimed at accelerating the Canadian insurer’s push to become an AI-powered organization, according to Coverager.

As part of the expansion, Manulife will adopt Microsoft 365 E7 Frontier Suite capabilities, expand Microsoft 365 Copilot use to over 30,000 employees, and deploy Microsoft Agent 365. The insurer said the tooling will support governing, monitoring, and securing AI agents at enterprise scale, including a registry to provide a single interface to observe, manage, and control how AI agents operate across the company.

The companies also described Microsoft as a foundational partner in Manulife’s global enterprise AI platform, which is currently in pilot, to help Manulife’s data scientists and developers build, deploy, and manage advanced AI and agentic solutions. Manulife added that it has AI-powered agent solutions in production, with additional initiatives planned.

Manulife expects to generate more than $1 billion of enterprise value by 2027, with $300 million achieved as of year-end 2025, as it embeds AI across the organization and aims to streamline everyday work for employees while delivering additional value to customers. In comments shared by Coverager, Manulife’s Chief Technology & Operations Officer Shamus Weiland said the Microsoft adoption provides the scale, security, stability, and intelligence needed to advance AI responsibly across its operations.
