Private-equity zombie funds hit record high as exits lag

WSJ Markets reports private-equity funds are continuing past their intended lifespans because managers cannot find buyers for remaining assets.

Private-equity money tied up in so-called zombie funds has reached a record high as many funds outlive their planned duration, according to WSJ Markets.

The outlet says the problem is driven by fund managers struggling to sell off remaining portfolio assets, leaving more capital trapped in longer-than-expected vehicles.
