Singapore PM Lawrence Wong reshuffles Cabinet, promotes K Shanmugam

The reshuffle also includes reinstating Labour chief Ng Chee Meng to the Prime Minister’s Office and appointing Jeffrey Siow and David Neo as full ministers.

Singapore Prime Minister Lawrence Wong announced a Cabinet renewal on Wednesday, confirming two acting ministers and promoting Coordinating Minister for National Security K Shanmugam to senior minister, according to SCMP Economy.

The reshuffle also reinstates Labour chief Ng Chee Meng as a minister in the Prime Minister’s Office, after he lost his MP seat in the 2020 general election and returned to parliament in the Jalan Kayu single seat in 2025.

SCMP Economy reports that transport chief Jeffrey Siow and Minister for Culture, Community and Youth David Neo were appointed as full ministers, alongside other portfolio changes and promotions.

Wong also said the cabinet changes are aimed at balancing experience and youth, SCMP Economy adds. He said the Ministry of Trade and Industry will be renamed the Ministry of Energy, Trade and Industry, led by Deputy Prime Minister Gan Kim Yong, with former manpower chief Tan See Leng taking over.
