Trump warns of strikes on Iranian infrastructure if Hormuz targets occur

The US Dollar Index rose briefly after the remarks, while WTI crude extended gains to around $86.50, up 2.7% on the day.

US President Donald Trump issued a fresh warning to Iran, threatening strikes on Iranian infrastructure if Tehran targets vessels in the Strait of Hormuz, according to FXStreet.

FXStreet said the US Dollar briefly strengthened after the comments, with the US Dollar Index, or DXY, trading around 101.11, down 0.08% on the day.

The report also noted that West Texas Intermediate crude extended its advance, trading near $86.50, up 2.75%, which it described as the highest level since June 11.

FXStreet added that the dollar can influence WTI because oil is predominantly priced in US dollars, and that political instability, wars, and sanctions can disrupt supply and affect prices.
