Beijing issues measured response to Trump’s 2020 election interference claims

China and the United States appear to be keeping their stated push for stability on track, despite President Donald Trump renewing allegations that Beijing meddled in the 2020 US elections, according to the South China Morning Post.

Beijing responded in a measured way to Trump’s claims, after he made the accusation in a prime-time televised address last week.

SCMP Economy reports that Trump said Beijing orchestrated what he called the “largest compromise of election data in history,” a claim that contradicts US intelligence assessments from 2021.

The piece also notes that the renewed tensions come with the leaders’ second summit of the year expected in September.
