China and US seek industry input on possible tariff reductions
China’s commerce ministry said it is collecting views from domestic and American firms ahead of tariff reduction arrangements under a new trade board.
China and the United States are soliciting feedback from businesses and other stakeholders as they work toward potential bilateral tariff reductions under a newly established trade board, China’s commerce ministry said.
According to Meng Huating of China’s Ministry of Commerce, Beijing is widely seeking input from domestic firms, business associations, local governments, as well as American firms and business associations, on the tariff reduction arrangements.
The US is also collecting public feedback on the trade board as the two sides finalize the board’s framework, functions, and operational model, Meng said.
Separately, SCMP Economy reported that US Secretary of State Marco Rubio said the countries are moving toward implementing the two boards before President Xi Jinping’s expected visit to the United States, which Rubio pegged to be before September.
