Empery Digital buys stake in Cardinal Data Power for AI buildout
The $20 million deal supports a West Texas 750-megawatt campus, with first power targeted for 2027.
Cointelegraph reports that Empery Digital has invested $20 million in Cardinal Data Power, acquiring an approximately 8% stake in the private developer of powered data center campuses.
The investment is tied to Cardinal Data Power’s approximately $70 million Series A and is intended to advance a 750-megawatt data center campus in West Texas. The project is expected to deliver first power in 2027, scale to about 1 gigawatt by 2029, and eventually exceed 5 gigawatts, serving artificial intelligence and high-performance computing workloads.
Empery said the move reflects a shift away from its Bitcoin treasury strategy adopted in mid-2025, after pivoting from its former electric powersports business. Earlier this month, Empery disclosed it sold about 1,400 Bitcoin over a two-month period for roughly $87.1 million to fund AI infrastructure investments and repay debt, reducing its holdings to 1,514 BTC.
The company has also faced pressure from shareholder Tice P. Brown, who urged Empery to abandon the treasury strategy and called for the resignation of the CEO and board. Cointelegraph notes the broader Bitcoin treasury model is evolving as some companies continue accumulating while others pivot, restructure, or exit.
