HKEX recognizes Bursa Malaysia, enabling Malaysian secondary listings in Hong Kong

HKEX said it has streamlined listing requirements for overseas issuers, adding new guidance and core shareholder protection standards for all issuers.

Hong Kong Exchanges and Clearing has recognized Bursa Malaysia as the 21st stock exchange in its network, clearing the way for Malaysia-listed companies to pursue secondary listings in Hong Kong, according to separate statements from the Malaysian government and HKEX.

The recognition follows a four-day visit to Malaysia by Hong Kong’s financial services secretary, Christopher Hui Ching-yu, where officials explored ways to deepen bilateral cooperation. The Malaysian bourse will also become the fourth recognized exchange in Asia, after Indonesia, Singapore and Thailand.

SCMP Economy said HKEX has also adjusted its framework for overseas issuers, including streamlining listing requirements, introducing core shareholder protection standards for all issuers, and issuing additional guidance to support companies seeking to list in Hong Kong.
