RLI Q2 2026 gross premiums rise 3% to $579.7 million
Net earnings climbed 35.1% to $168.0 million as net premiums written increased 6% and the combined ratio widened to 85.6%.
Specialty insurer RLI Corp. reported gross premiums written of $579.7 million for the second quarter of 2026, up 3% from $562.3 million in the year-ago period, with the increase driven by its Casualty segment.
Casualty premiums totaled $339.0 million, while Property generated $199.3 million and Surety contributed $41.4 million. For the quarter, RLI said net premiums written rose 6% to $484.7 million and net premiums earned increased 3.8% to $417.1 million.
RLI posted net earnings of $168.0 million in Q2’26, up 35.1% from $124.3 million a year earlier. Operating earnings were $76.9 million, or $0.83 per share, compared with $76.2 million previously.
The insurer reported underwriting income of $59.9 million, down from $62.2 million, as the combined ratio rose to 85.6% from 84.5%. RLI also cited favorable prior-year loss reserve development, and said its investment portfolio returned 3.4% for the quarter and 3.0% for the six months ended June 30, 2026, according to Reinsurance News.
