Malaysia investigates Maxis after influencer’s telecom data is leaked
The probe was sparked by a social media claim that a stranger accessed details tied to an influencer’s Maxis account, including a 498 ringgit overdue bill and line-bar risk.
Malaysia has launched a data protection investigation into Maxis after a privacy incident that began with a social media post about an alleged unpaid phone bill, according to SCMP Economy.
The episode involved Malaysian influencer Khairul Amin Kamarulzaman, known as Khairul Aming, who questioned how another user obtained his telecoms account information and shared it publicly.
SCMP Economy reports that the screenshots posted on Monday alleged an overdue Maxis bill of 498 ringgit, said the line could be barred soon, and claimed digital purchases drove up charges despite an advance payment of 2,000 ringgit.
SCMP Economy adds that the same account was alleged to have revealed details connected to Khairul’s MySara government aid account before the post was removed, and Maxis has not identified the person involved or stated whether it was an employee, contractor, or another authorized user.
