Meta hires former AWS veteran Dave Brown to bolster cloud ambitions
Brown, an AWS executive for 19 years, is slated to leave AWS in July, as Wedbush said the move supports Meta’s push for an AI cloud offering.
Meta is bringing in former Amazon Web Services veteran Dave Brown to support its cloud ambitions, according to internal communications at AWS cited by Yahoo Finance.
Brown spent 19 years at AWS and is expected to leave his post in July, while broker Wedbush viewed the hire positively and said it reinforces the idea that Meta is serious about building its own AI cloud offering.
Yahoo Finance adds that the strategy of hiring industry veterans has precedent for Meta, including earlier efforts to assemble an AI team after CEO Mark Zuckerberg said the company was behind rivals such as OpenAI, Anthropic, and Google’s Gemini.
The outlet also points to Meta’s past AI investments and talent-building spend, including reporting on AI researchers being offered $300 million over four years and Meta’s $14.3 billion acqui-hire of Alexander Wang, with Meta owning a 49% stake in Scale AI.
