Santam Syndicate 1918 adds two London Market underwriters
The Lloyd’s syndicate appointed Neil Smith to lead International Motor development and Stephen Kiedish to expand Property underwriting capabilities.
Santam Syndicate 1918, a Lloyd’s syndicate within the Santam Group, has expanded its underwriting team with two senior London Market appointments, aimed at strengthening technical expertise and supporting sustainable, profitable growth, according to Reinsurance News.
Neil Smith was recruited to establish and lead the syndicate’s International Motor offering. In the role, he will oversee underwriting strategy, manage portfolio performance, and work with brokers and Coverholders to deepen the syndicate’s presence across key international markets.
Stephen Kiedish joined as Senior Underwriter in the Property division. He will be responsible for enhancing the syndicate’s Property underwriting capabilities while supporting continued growth and portfolio diversification.
Santam Syndicate 1918 CEO Sam Geddes said the new hires bring strong technical capability, reputations, and extensive experience in their respective lines, and that the appointments will benefit clients, brokers, and Coverholders.
The outlet said Smith brings more than 30 years of International Motor underwriting experience, most recently as Managing Director, International Motor, at Volante Global. The report also notes Smith previously held senior underwriting roles at QBE Insurance, Ensign Motor Policies, and Torch Motor Policies.
