China bans dual-use exports to 14 EU entities after new sanctions
The export curbs take effect immediately and target items with both civilian and military applications, after an EU sanctions round on Russia that included 14 China and Hong Kong firms.
China has added 14 European Union entities to its export control list, according to a statement from the Ministry of Commerce reported by SCMP Economy on Friday. Effective immediately, China prohibits the export of dual-use items, products with both civilian and military applications, to the named companies and institutions.
SCMP Economy reports the restrictions also ban shipments of dual-use items of Chinese origin to the listed entities. The ministry said the action was prompted by another round of sanctions from Brussels announced on Thursday.
The outlet said the EU’s latest measures barred exports of dual-use goods and technologies to 51 entities in its 21st round of sanctions against Russia. SCMP Economy added that the EU list included firms from mainland China, Hong Kong, India, Turkey, and the UAE.
Among the 14 EU entities named by China were Italian electric motor maker Lafert, German defense giant Rheinmetall, and French drone developer Cavok UAS, SCMP Economy reported. The commerce ministry characterized the bloc’s actions as “egregious” in explaining the new export restrictions.
