Explosions near US base in Iraq and sirens in Bahrain amid US-Iran war

A series of explosions were reported near a military base hosting US forces in northern Iraq, while sirens sounded in Bahrain on Friday, hours after the US military said it had completed its 13th night of strikes against Iran, according to the SCMP Economy. The outlet said the conflict has flared again over the past week as the US carried out strikes on Iran, while Tehran attacked ships in the Strait of Hormuz and targeted US assets and allies in the region. The report emphasized that the Strait of Hormuz is a crucial passage for the world’s energy supplies and is at the center of the latest fighting, with the potential to shut the waterway and send fuel prices soaring, contributing to broader economic turmoil. SCMP Economy also noted that Iranian-allied Houthi rebels added pressure this week by targeting two Saudi tankers in the Red Sea, and it said Iran’s Revolutionary Guards claimed it targeted an Amazon data center in Bahrain, per state media.
