ICC members vote to dismiss Karim Khan as prosecutor
Diplomats say 82 of the court’s 125 member states backed his removal, following an oversight body decision last month.
Member states of the International Criminal Court voted to dismiss Karim Khan as prosecutor, according to two diplomatic sources cited by SCMP Economy.
The sources said 82 of the court’s 125 member states voted in favour of removal, after the court’s oversight body decided last month that Khan had an inappropriate sexual relationship with a junior ICC lawyer.
Khan, 56, denies any wrongdoing, and his lawyers have described the process as unlawful, procedurally unfair, and unsupported by evidence.
The vote came after the United States announced it would launch a renewed diplomatic campaign to dismantle the ICC, which it said threatens its sovereignty, and the decision was backed in a vote at the United Nations in New York on Friday.
