Japan core inflation inches up as oil prices lift costs

The June rise marked the first increase in core inflation since March, and it matched economists expectations for a 1.6% gain.

Japan’s core inflation rate in June edged higher after a four-year low, driven in part by higher oil prices, CNBC Markets said.

The report said this was the first rise in core inflation since March, indicating a shift after a period of cooling.

CNBC World added that the June reading was in line with economists’ expectations for a 1.6% increase, based on a Reuters poll.
