Louis Dreyfus opens pea protein isolate plant in Saskatchewan
The new facility targets production of up to 75,000 tonnes of yellow peas annually and expands canola crushing capacity to more than 2 million tonnes per year.
Louis Dreyfus Co. (LDC) officially opened a new pea protein isolate production facility at its Yorkton, Saskatchewan, complex on July 23, following commissioning in March, according to World Grain.
The plant is designed to scale production of LDC’s pea protein isolates to up to 75,000 tonnes of yellow peas annually, and LDC said it will also commercialize pea fiber and a proprietary pea starch for use in areas including pet food, building materials, and paper.
Alongside the new pea protein line, LDC expanded its existing canola processing site, more than doubling crushing capacity to over 2 million tonnes.
The Saskatchewan Ministry of Trade and Export Development for Saskatchewan said the Yorkton complex is expected to reach 260 employees by the end of 2026, adding 140 new jobs as part of the expansion.
