Chubb Tempest Re names new executive chairman and president
The changes take effect August 1, with James Wixtead shifting from president of Chubb Tempest Re Group to governance oversight and strategic advice.
Chubb has appointed James Wixtead executive chairman of Chubb Tempest Re and named Michael O’Donnell president, effective August 1, according to Coverager.
Wixtead, who was president of the Chubb Tempest Re Group, will provide governance oversight and advise on strategy for Chubb’s global reinsurance business, while O’Donnell, then president of Chubb Tempest Re USA, will take on day-to-day operations and report to Chubb CEO Evan Greenberg and President and COO John Keogh.
O’Donnell joined Chubb Tempest Re in 2006 and has led the U.S. operation since 2014, while Wixtead has nearly 40 years of insurance experience and previously led ACE Tempest Re before ACE acquired Chubb in 2016.
Coverager also notes that Chubb hosted its second-quarter 2026 earnings call on July 22, where it highlighted the durability of its high-net-worth personal lines business, rapid growth in life and benefits, and an unchanged approach to deploying capital. The company tied the leadership transition to efforts to improve protocol compliance and reduce operational, regulatory, and liability risks for sponsors, CROs, and research sites.
