The Hartford reports Q2 2026 net income of $1.3 billion
Property and casualty written premiums rose 3%, while the company’s combined ratio increased to 91.4 for the quarter.
US insurer The Hartford reported second-quarter 2026 results showing net income of $1.3 billion, alongside a 3% year-over-year increase in Property and Casualty (P&C) written premiums. The company said the P&C growth was supported by 5% Business Insurance premium growth.
The Hartford added that its Business Insurance premium increase drove operating metrics for the quarter, with the company’s P&C combined ratio rising to 91.4 and its underlying combined ratio improving to 89.3. For Personal Insurance, the combined ratio fell to 90.1 and the underlying combined ratio improved to 86.3.
For the period, net income growth also reflected changes in earnings drivers, including a 31% increase versus the $990 million reported in Q2 2025. The company reported core earnings of $945 million, up 1% from $932 million, and said results primarily reflected the same underlying drivers as net income, excluding impacts from realized gains or losses and discontinued operations.
On profitability, The Hartford said net income return on equity (ROE) was 23.8% over the trailing 12 months, while core earnings ROE was 18.7%. The insurer also cited catastrophe loss figures, including P&C CAY CAT losses of $222 million before tax in Q2 2026, up from $212 million in Q2 2025, tied to tornado, wind and hail events.
