Typhoon Noul expected to pass closest to Hong Kong late Saturday into Sunday

The Hong Kong Observatory is considering issuing a No 1 warning signal later on Friday as the storm is forecast to enter within 800 km of the city.

Typhoon Noul is expected to come closest to Hong Kong between Saturday night and Sunday morning, the Hong Kong Observatory said, noting it is considering issuing the No 1 warning signal later on Friday.

According to SCMP Economy, the storm, officially named and described as provided by North Korea, was about 500 km northeast of Manila as of Friday morning and was moving northwest at 26 km/h.

The Observatory said Noul is expected to move across the Luzon Strait and enter within 800 km of Hong Kong later on Friday, before reaching the northeastern part of the South China Sea near the coast of eastern Guangdong over the weekend.

Yeung Hon-yin, a senior scientific officer at the Hong Kong Observatory, said the forecast track would put the storm at its closest point to Hong Kong during the Saturday to Sunday period.
