U.S. LNG exports surge, powering most of the world’s 2025 growth

U.S. LNG exports rose 27% in 2025 to 5.2 trillion cubic feet, lifting the U.S. to a 25.4% share of global LNG exports.

OilPrice reports that global liquefied natural gas exports grew by about 1.2 trillion cubic feet in 2025, with the United States supplying roughly 1.10 trillion cubic feet of that increase.

According to data cited from the Energy Institute’s 2026 Statistical Review of World Energy, U.S. LNG exports increased 27% last year to 5.2 trillion cubic feet, while total global exports rose from 19.3 trillion cubic feet to 20.4 trillion cubic feet.

That growth pushed the U.S. share of the global LNG export market to 25.4%, far ahead of Qatar with 3.9 trillion cubic feet and Australia with 3.7 trillion cubic feet.

The outlet notes the scale of the shift versus 2015, when the United States exported less than 0.03 trillion cubic feet and Qatar led with 3.7 trillion cubic feet.
