West Marine to close 32 more stores in Chapter 11 restructuring

The retailer said the additional closures would raise the total planned store shutdowns to 91 as it restructures to strengthen its balance sheet and reduce debt.

West Marine, the largest U.S. boating and marine supplies retailer, said it plans to close an additional 32 retail locations as part of its Chapter 11 bankruptcy restructuring, bringing total planned closures to 91, according to Yahoo Finance.

The outlet reports that the new round of store shutdowns follows 59 closures previously announced, and it frames the move as part of a broader effort to improve the company’s financial flexibility.

West Marine cited supply chain disruptions, extreme weather events, and shifts in consumer behavior as factors that led to the bankruptcy, Yahoo Finance reported, adding that the company is pursuing Chapter 11 to strengthen its balance sheet and reduce debt.

Yahoo Finance also linked the broader stress on recreational boating retailers to pressure on discretionary spending and consumer credit conditions, noting that new boat retail unit sales fell 8.8% year over year in 2025 to 215,237 units.
