China stages Chinese Film Week in Burundi to expand cultural ties
The event in Bujumbura, Burundi, is linked to broader plans for creator exchanges, artist mobility, university partnerships, and co-productions.
Chinese Film Week opened in Bujumbura, Burundi, showcasing Chinese dragon and lion dances alongside Burundian drumming, as part of Beijing’s broader effort to strengthen ties through cultural outreach.
According to SCMP Economy, the Chinese embassy in Bujumbura said the July 15 program was intended as an example of cultural exchanges and a way to use cinema to promote Sino-Burundian friendship, with China’s ambassador describing film as a tool for bridging language and cultural barriers.
The festival also supports longer range cooperation, with plans to expand work through creator exchanges, artist mobility, university partnerships, co-productions, and skills transfer.
As part of the China Africa Year of Human and Cultural Exchanges, seven Chinese films were scheduled, including The Wandering Earth II, Changan, and The Snow Leopard.
