Baldwin Group shares jump as report says broker weighs take-private
Coverager says Mapfre agreed to buy Safety Insurance Group for about $1.54 billion in cash at a 44% premium, highlighting how insurers and brokers are repositioning for growth.
Baldwin Group shares surged 17% after reports said the broker is weighing a take-private, a potential shift that comes just one month after HUB International confidentially filed a draft S-1 for an IPO, according to Coverager.
Coverager framed the moves as two different paths for mega-brokerage liquidity, contrasting sponsor recapitalizations and minority investments with a renewed push in opposite directions on the public markets.
In deal activity, Coverager said Mapfre agreed to acquire Safety Insurance Group for about $1.54 billion in cash, or $105 a share, representing a 44% premium, with the transaction expected to close in Q1 2027.
The same review also cited other insurer and brokerage transactions, including Allianz’s plan to acquire HSBC Life Singapore and enter a 15-year exclusive distribution agreement with HSBC Singapore for €2 billion, plus Horace Mann’s plan to acquire businesses from Medical Mutual of Ohio for about $240 million and Sompo’s agreement to acquire Brazil’s Fator Seguradora.
