China adds Polish university to dual-use export blacklist tied to EU sanctions
The move follows EU sanctions on Thursday against 14 mainland Chinese and Hong Kong companies over alleged links to Russia, and the additions are effective immediately.
China has added Wroclaw University of Science and Technology, a Polish university, to a dual-use export control blacklist that also includes defense-related entities in the European security sector, according to SCMP Economy.
In an unprecedented step, the Chinese commerce ministry placed the university among 14 European Union entities on Friday, with the designations effective immediately.
The ministry cited EU sanctions imposed the previous day, which targeted 14 mainland Chinese and Hong Kong companies over alleged links to Russia.
Wroclaw University of Science and Technology said it could not comment because it had not yet received official information, while SCMP Economy notes that the university’s defense research footprint and ties to China may explain why it was singled out.
