Allianz trims management board by two seats ahead of retirements
The insurer will cut its board of management from nine to eight, with Günther Thallinger leaving Dec. 31, 2026, three years earlier than planned.
Allianz SE is shrinking its board of management for the second time in four years, folding two executive departures into fewer, broader roles as it accelerates a consolidation push that began in 2022, Insurance Business reported.
The company said Günther Thallinger, a board member since 2017, will end his mandate on Dec. 31, 2026, three years ahead of the previously scheduled Dec. 31, 2029 term end. His exit brings the board down from nine members to eight. Allianz said it will not disclose a specific reason for the early conclusion beyond a mutual agreement between Thallinger and the supervisory board.
Allianz previously disclosed that Klaus-Peter Röhler would retire at the end of 2026 after his mandate expiration and upon reaching the regular age limit of 62. Tomas Kunzmann was appointed in March to join the board effective Jan. 1, 2027, overseeing Asia Pacific, including India.
With Kunzmann starting on Jan. 1, 2027, and taking additional responsibility for Global Health and Sustainability, Thallinger’s earlier departure adds a second succession step before Kunzmann formally takes his seat. Allianz said the smaller board reflects closer integration of capabilities across the group and efficiencies achieved in recent years.
